The ophthlamologist is your eyes’ doctor !
He is a specialist who diagnoses and cures eye diseases, and performs eye surgery as well.
He prescribes the appropriate treatment if necessary for the pharmacist (in case of conjunctivitis for example).
The optometrist is the primary health care provider for non surgical treatment of eye diseases and visual system disorders.
He carries out clinical tests assessing your visual performance taking several parameters into account : distant vision, short vision, relief vision, sensibility to light, perception of colours, field of vision, etc. After these exams, he writes a prescription for the optician (glasses or contact lenses) if necessary.
The optician is both a technician and an advisor.
Starting from the optometrist’s prescription, he determines solutions adapted to your visual needs in aesthetic, technical and practical terms. He takes into account all your activities (do you often use a computer ? do you practise a contact sport ? indoor or outdoor ?) but also the shape of your face, the space between your eyes and your nose… Then, the optician orders the lenses from a manufacturer and cuts them to adapt them to your frame and adjusts them to your face to ensure optimal comfort !
